During National Volunteer Week, we would like to give our thanks the many volunteers who give their time to Bluegrass Care Navigators!
Hospice volunteers are a valuable part of the patient care team. Volunteers work with a clinical team of a doctor, nurse, aide, chaplain and social worker. Because they spend time with the patient, volunteers who provide direct patient care can often give the team valuable feedback about issues that may arise during their visits. And this connection is a big part of what makes hospice volunteer so valuable. The companionships created provide comfort to a patient during the end-of-life process. Sometimes patients may not have any family or loved ones to visit them, and a volunteer can offer friendship and emotional support.
Volunteers also can provide assistance in an administrative setting. We have many volunteers who go into the office and perform tasks such as preparing mailings, data entry and answering phones. Some volunteers make care calls to patients and families, to see how they are doing and if they need anything.
We truly appreciate the dedication and support of our volunteers. They generously give their time to patients at the end-of-life, as well as their families and loved ones. They are an important part of our organization!
